Lawn Mower Shopping
Riding or push mower? Gas or Electric? Mulching or bagging? These are just a few of the questions you will have to answer if you are shopping for a new lawn mower. We’ve put together a few tips for you to help you get started.
By far, the most popular type of lawn mower sold today is the Gas or Electric Powered Rotary mower. There are also a few other types: push mowers (powered by you - best for very small lawns), riding mowers (best for large lawns) and reel mowers (best for cutting large lawns with specialty grass such as Bermuda that must be cut very short).
Once you’ve decided the type of mower you want, here are some features you may or may not find useful on your new lawn mower.
- Choose a mulching mower if you don't want to deal with clippings. Mulching mowers cut clippings very small so that they disappear into the lawn.
- Self-propelled mowers are useful if you have a hilly yard or a large lawn.
- Bagging comes in handy in the spring and fall when you need to collect leaves, twigs, and yard debris, or when you’ve let your lawn get too long for the mulching feature of your mower. If you hate raking, you might consider this feature.
- You should also look at other features including weight, ease of starting, ease of changing blade height, and of course cost when choosing your new mower.
